A FOX Broadcasting Company executive revealed in a statement early on Wednesday that their hit musical comedy-drama television series “Glee” will more than likely “not be renewed” for a fourth season.
“‘Glee’ has already signed on for a third season,” FOX revealed, continuing “however we feel that in certain cases it becomes necessary to put the integrity of television and entertainment ahead of the profits reaped.”
“Glee” is currently FOX’s highest rated program, bringing in some 10 million viewers per episode. The statement went on to say: “It has become evident that the overall quality of the majority of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan’s work has experienced a significant decline and we feel it is our duty here at FOX to discontinue any further production of ‘Glee’ beyond a third season before any further similar downtrends can occur.” FOX execs continued: “We sincerely apologize to those who are fans of the show and wish the cast and crew of ‘Glee’ nothing but the best in their future endeavors.”
FOX representatives have also cited over-inflated budgets, unreasonable demands, and and legal troubles relating to the acquiring of music copyrights for the shows production numbers as mounting reasons contributing to the discontinuation of “Glee”.
The show’s creator, Ryan Murphy, was not available for comment at press time.
